Apps To Help You Count Your Macros

February 22, 2019 by Jillian Parkinson Leave a Comment

If you’re looking forward to Spring and eyeing those shorts in your closet with a little bit of trepidation, then it might be time to try something new like counting your Macros. So, what exactly is that? Macro is short for macronutrients. And the short of it is that this diet is based off of eating only what your body needs to run, or a little bit less, so that you can lose weight. It’s super similar to Keto, and because they run the same way, you can use them somewhat interchangeably.

There are three types of macros: Carbohydrates, Protein, and Fat. Once you figure out what your baseline Macro is, you can then set goals for how much of each type of macro you want to consume a day. This Macro Calculator can help you figure that all out. Once you’ve got your goals set and know what you’re aiming for each day, the struggle then becomes how to keep track?

Well, I’ve got you covered!

My Fitness Pal: If you’re used to keeping track of what you eat at all, chances are you know this App. If you’re really going to do Macro, then you really should spring for the Premium version of the app because it allows you to put your own macro targets in.

MyPlate: This app is run through the LiveStrong Foundation. It’s free to use and the home screen will show you what you need to to know. If you want an ad-free experience then you can totally pay to get rid of the ads and then have access to support groups and a whole bunch of cool stuff!

MyMacros+: This app is specifically designed to count macros. It costs $2.99 but it’s well worth it if you’re new to macros. It’s highly customizable and allows you to adjust for exercise and non-exercise days.

LoseIt!: This app is free to download and does a good job of showing you what your daily macros are from the home screen. However, the premium version allows for more detailed tracking of macros.

So which should you choose? I’d suggest downloaded one and trying it out for free. When you find one that you like, I’d recommend purchasing it so that you have more accountability with using it.

And there you have it! Happy Counting!
