One of my guilty pleasures is a devilish deviled egg. It’s weird, I know. But when you have a coop of chickens who lay lots of eggs, you tend to get creative about how you eat them. I just happen to love a good deviled egg! There is something so satisfying about the creamy yolk and the spices that hits the spot. So I’m going to share some of my favorite deviled egg recipes just in case you’re feeling a little bit devilish too. 😉
Feeling Devilish? Eggcellent!
Recipe 01: Anything But *Basic* Deviled Eggs
This recipe is a classic, but it’s anything but basic! It’s creamy, flavorful, and perfect for picnics or parties.
Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 3 Tbsp. mayo
- 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
- salt and pepper to taste
- paprika for garnish
Process:
Begin by hard boiling your eggs. You can totally do this the old fashioned way (I’ll give you instructions in just a second) or you can use one of these to help you out. No judgment either way! If you’re going the old fashioned route, then put a pot of water on to boil and get it rolling.
When the water has reached a good boil, turn off the stove and allow the water to cool just enough that the bubbles stop. Next, gently place the eggs in your pot and set a timer for 14 minutes before increasing the heat on the stove to high again. While the eggs are boiling, prepare an ice bath. After your time is up, remove the eggs from the water and place them into your ice bath and allow them to cool completely.
After your eggs have cooled, go ahead and peel them before slicing in half lengthwise. Then pop out the yolk and place in a bowl while putting the egg white on a plate (like this cute one!) Now it’s time to make your filling. Begin by mashing the yolks with a fork before adding in the mayo, mustard, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Continue to mix until well combined. To finish, you can either pipe the filling back into the egg or use a small spoon and place a dollop back into the egg white. Last, sprinkle with paprika to finish and enjoy!
Recipe 02: Bacon Guac Deviled Eggs
You never knew you needed this in your life, but trust me, you do.
Ingredients:
- 6 eggs
- 1 large avocado, mashed
- 2 Tbsp. cooked and crumbled bacon
- 1 Tbsp. finely diced jalapeno
- 1 Tbsp. finely diced red onion
- 2 Tbsp. diced tomato
- 1 Tbsp. lime juice
- 1 Tbsp. chopped cilantro
- salt, pepper, and cayenne to taste
- chili powder for garnish
Process:
Begin by boiling your eggs using the process in Recipe 01 or your handy-dandy egg cooker. Then slice and de-yolk your eggs. Next, in a medium bowl, mash the yolks together with the avocado, bacon, jalapeno, onion, tomato, lime juice, and cilantro. When it’s combined, season with salt, pepper, and cayenne to your preferences before spooning or piping a tablespoon of the yummy goodness back into the egg whites. Lastly, garnish with some bacon and a pinch of chili powder before serving! These devilish deviled eggs will be a hit!
Recipe 03: Dill Pickle Deviled Eggs
Try saying that three times fast!
Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 c. mayo
- 1 tsp. pickle juice
- 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
- 2 Tbsp. minced dill pickles
- 1 Tbsp. freshly chopped dill, plus more for garnish
- salt and pepper to taste
Process:
Begin by hard boiling your eggs according to your chosen method. See recipe 01 if you need help! When your eggs are done and cooled, cut them in half lengthwise and de-yolk them. Next, in a medium bowl, mix your yolks with the mayo, pickle juice, and mustard until smooth and incorporated. Then stir in the minced pickles and dill before seasoning with salt and pepper. Last, either pipe or put a dollop of the mixture into each egg white before garnishing with a little more dill and maybe a slice of pickle. Serve and enjoy!
Hopefully, these three recipes will help change your mind about deviled eggs! They really are a versatile side dish, and with how packed they are with protein, they are a total win.
