Favorite April Fools’ Recipes

March 29, 2019 by Jillian Parkinson Leave a Comment

April Fools’ Day is one of those holidays that people either love or really dislike. It can be a holiday that is malicious and rude, but it’s also possible for it to be fun and surprising! I prefer not to do pranks because my kids don’t love them, but I don’t mind doing something silly with their food for fun! I’ve gathered up a few of the best recipes I’ve used and found so that you to can help make your kids giggle.

You can make this recipe with any kind of juice really, and it’s a great way to make you kids giggle and have fun eating their breakfast at the same time.

  • 4 cups juice, divided
  • 4 tsp. sugar
  • 4 straws

Process:

You’ll need a small bowl, a saucepan, and four cups for this recipe. Start by sprinkling the gelatin over 1 cup of juice. Allow the juice to stand for one minute. While the juice is doing it’s thing, bring the sugar and the remaining juice to a boil. When it’s boiling, whisk in the gelatin mixture. Recipe 02: Chicken NOT Pie

This recipe is a great one to pull off if you can manage it! It looks like Chicken Pot Pie…but it hides a delicious dessert instead of peas, carrots, and chicken.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg. vanilla pudding
  • 1 pkg. Jelly Belly “Peas and Carrots” jelly beans
  • 1 store bought pie crust

Process:

Start by making the tops of your “pies”. You can use mini pie dishes like these, or make one large pie. Remember that you’re not making a base for the crust, just the top. First, fill the tin with balled up tinfoil so that the top of the crust looks like there’s something underneath. Then bake according to the package directions. While the crust is cooking, make your pudding according to the directions. When the pudding has set and the crusts are done, you’re ready to assemble your Chicken NOT Pie.

Start by removing the top of the crust from the pie tin, gently. Then, mix the pea and carrot candy into the pudding. After that, put the pudding into the pie tin and cover with the pie crust. Refrigerate until you’re ready to serve! It’s a fun an harmless way to celebrate April Fools’ Day.

Recipe 03: Pie Fries

These are a great way to tease your kids! They look like fries, but can be dipped in jam, nutella, or frosting for a fun afternoon snack!

Ingredients:

  • prepared pie crust
  • 6 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1 c. cinnamon sugar mixture
  • strawberry jam

Process:

Start by heating your oven to 400F. Next up, line a baking sheet with tin foil and go ahead and set that aside. While the oven is heating, roll out your pie crust and use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into fry shapes. After you’ve got your “fries”, lay them in a single layer on the baking sheet. Before baking, brush the “fries” with the melted butter and sprinkle with a generous helping of cinnamon and sugar. Go ahead and pop those things in the oven and bake until crispy, which should be about 10 minutes. After baking, allow to cool before serving with “ketchup”.

Happy April Fools’!
