Slow Cooker Sweet Amish Bread Recipe
When you just can’t deal with a hot oven, the slow cooker is your friend. This recipe produces a wider loaf than your loaf pans will, but that just means you get to have bigger sandwiches. 🙂 If you’re looking for a loaf that has the characteristic golden hue, then pop that baby into the oven under the broiler for a few minutes.

Cuisine American
Servings 1 loaf
Ingredients
- 2 c. warm water (110 degrees)
- ⅔ c. white sugar
- 1 ½ tbsp. active dry yeast
- 1 ½ tsp. salt
- ¼ c. vegetable oil
- 6 c. bread flour
Instructions
- Begin by dissolving the sugar and salt in the warm water. Then stir in the yeast and give it about 10 minutes to get foamy. Next, mix oil into the yeast until combined. Then begin mixing in the flour a cup at a time, allowing the mixture time to combine before adding more. You want to avoid lumps if possible. When the dough no longer sticks to the side of the bowl or your finger, place it into a crock pot that is lined with parchment paper. Then turn the crock pot on "High" and allow to cook between 2 and 2½ hours. If you want a browned top, then place the loaf on a lined baking sheet and broil for about 6 minutes, making sure to rotate halfway through.
