If you’re looking for some Halloween party appetizers that are not only spooky but also delicious, then you’re in the right place. Instead of carrying the theme through your entire menu, which could be daunting, stick to appetizers. Why? Because they are easy to put together and can carry a theme almost on their own. And of course, our hot chocolate bomb recipe is great for Halloween or any other occasion!
It’s a good idea to make sure your serving dishes are also on theme, so I’ve gathered some suggestions for you. This platter will be extra spooky with its skull and bones theme. This set comes with three different shapes: ghost, pumpkin, and bat. If you’re looking for something a little more elegant, then this is definitely up your alley. Once you’ve got your platters ready, it’s time to break out the appetizers!
Halloween Party Appetizers That Are Spooky But Delicious
Recipe 01: Spooky Deviled Eggs
With a festive olive spider, these deviled eggs are perfect appetizers!
Ingredients:
- 6 eggs
- 1/4 c. mayo
- 1 tsp. white vinegar
- 1 tsp. yellow mustard
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- pepper to taste
- smoked paprika for garnish
- 6-8 black olives
Process:
Begin by boiling the eggs using your preferred method. I’d suggest picking up one of these to help your process go smoothly. When the eggs are cooked, crack and peel under cool water before gently drying with paper towels. Next, slice the eggs in half lengthwise and remove the yolks. Place the yolks into a bowl and mash with a fork before adding in mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Then place the yolk mixture into a piping bag and pipe into the hollowed-out egg white before sprinkling with paprika.
After the deviled eggs are assembled, it’s time to add the black olive spider. Start by cutting the olives in half lengthwise. Place half of an olive on the top of the deviled egg. Then cut two remaining half into four slices and place on opposite sides for legs. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Recipe 02: Witch’s Finger Cheesy Breadsticks
Dress up your breadsticks with this simple hack!
Ingredients
- 1/4 c. yellow cornmeal
- 1-13.8 oz can refrigerated classic pizza crust
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 red bell pepper, cored and cut into wedges
Process:
Begin by heating your oven to 450F and coating a baking sheet with cooking spray. Next, sprinkle cornmeal onto your counter and roll out the pizza dough until you have a 12-inch rectangle before transferring the dough to your baking sheet. Next up, whisk together the butter, garlic, and seasoning until combined. Brush this mixture over the top of the pizza dough before sprinkling the mozzarella cheese over the top.
To bake, place the pan in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is nice and melted. While the breadsticks are baking, cut and core your red pepper bell pepper. Then cut into thick wedges before cutting each wedge into multiple triangles. Set these aside. Remove breadsticks from the oven and cut in half so you have two-6 inch pieces. Then cut into strips roughly 1 inch wide and place a bell pepper triangle on the end of each breadstick. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe 03: Ghosty Nanas and Tangerine Pumpkins
Perfect when you want to have something sweet as an appetizer without incorporating a lot of artificial sugars.
Ingredients:
- tangerines or Cuties, peeled
- celery, cut into small sticks
- bananas, peeled and cut in half
- mini chocolate chips (alternatively you could use chocolate melts and pipe faces on)
Process:
Begin by peeling your tangerines or oranges, then stick a small piece of celery into the top. For the bananas, either stick chocolate tips pointy side into the bananas, or melt the chocolate melts, pour into a Ziploc bag, and cut a TINY corner off. Then pipe a ghosty face and you’re done!
Recipe 04: Scary Sausage Mummies
Great finger food and thoroughly on theme, these sausage mummies are a must!
Ingredients:
- 1 package puff pastry or crescent roll dough
- 1 Tbsp flour
- 1 pkg. mini sausages
- 1 egg lightly beaten (if using puff pastry)
- 4 Tbsp cream cheese
- 1 tsp. chopped black olives or whole peppercorns
Process:
Begin by heating the oven to 375F and dusting a countertop. Then roll out your dough on the floured surface and cut into thin strips. Next, begin at the bottom of the mini sausages and wrap the dough strip around until you reach the top, making sure to leave an opening for eyes. When all the sausages have been wrapped, place them on an ungreased baking sheet. If you’re using puff pastry, brush each mummy with the beaten egg. Bake the mummies for 13-15 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown. Then remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before adding eyes. You can either use a dap of cream cheese, followed by a piece of chopped olive or a whole peppercorn. I’ve also seen the eyes done with a dab of mustard. Serve with dipping sauce and enjoy!
Now that you’ve got your Halloween party appetizers planned, it’s time to get your party on! Happy baking and Happy Halloween!
