It’s that time again… it’s time for cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin, oh my! The scents of fall are here and with them comes all of the delicious desserts that utilize those flavors. One of my favorites is Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate.
You really can’t go wrong with Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate…I mean, pumpkin plus chocolate pretty much equals nirvana, am I right? This is one drink that can go totally wrong though. Too much of one spice, not enough of another, and you’re looking at something that is more fit for the garden than a warm mug.
Pumpkin Spice is also one of the variations we recommend in our article on how to make hot chocolate bombs, so be sure to check that out as well!
It’s important to make sure you use quality white chocolate chips and work on balancing the sweetness. It’s also a good idea to try out the spices and see which ones you like the most. A dash of chili powder might just take this to the next level. Feel free to mix and match your spices. If you’re in need of a solid recipe or some inspiration for some autumn comfort in a mug, look no further!
Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 2 c. milk (whole is the best!)
- 1/2 c. pumpkin puree
- 2 tsp. pumpkin spice
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2/3 c. white chocolate chips
- Whipped cream for topping
- cinnamon-sugar for topping
- cinnamon sticks, star of anise, marshmallows, optional
Process: In a medium saucepan (like this one), combine the first four ingredients on the list and whisk together over medium heat. Once it starts to simmer, add in the white chocolate chips and cook until they are completely melted, then remove from the stove. Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and garnish with cinnamon sticks, star of anise, or marshmallows.
And there you have it! The flavors of fall captured in a mug. Happy cooking (and happy Autumn)
