I Scream You Scream We All Scream For Snow Cream!
If you live in the midwest, it’s definitely that time of year again! Just look at my beautiful backyard.
One thing I love about a fresh fallen snow is that it’s a great time to spend some quality time with your kids. We love baking and reading when the storms get fierce. But what’s a mom to do when you’re tired of chocolate chips and Harry Potter (blasphemy, I know)? Make Snow Cream of course!
This classic dessert has so little prep and it’s easy to have the littles help out. I’d suggest using this classic recipe first! A few things, one is that the amount of snow that you use will depend on what kind of snow has fallen. If it’s a good heavy snow, then you might not need as much. If it’s a light snow with not much moisture, you might need more. What you’re looking for is that consistency of homemade ice cream fresh from the bucket.
Basic Snow Cream Recipe
- 1 can evaporated milk (12 oz)
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- a bowl of snow! (about 1/2 gallon)
Process: In a small bowl mix the milk, sugar, and vanilla until it’s very well combined. In a large bowl (like this one) add your snow, about 8-9 cups. Slowly pour the milk/sugar mixture over the snow and stir, stir, stir! You want it to have some solidity to it and not be too runny, but it’s not going to be as thick as store bought ice cream. Serve with sprinkles or flavored sauces!

Chocolate Snow Cream
- 2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. chocolate syrup
- 8 c. fresh snow
Process: Start by whisking the syrup and milk together until they are well combined. Slowly drizzle the chocolate milk over the snow, mixing until you have your desired consistency.
